Call of Duty 4, not surprisingly the fourth release under the franchise, is the first of the Modern Warfare editions. Leaving behind the previous WW11 setting the story takes place in the present day where Middle Eastern radicals have executed the president of an unnamed state.
Introducing new weapons and technology to the Call of Duty franchise, including the M14, M4A1 carbine with SOPMOD accessories, M40A3 sniper rifle, the M203 grenade launcher, the AN/PEQ-2 target pointer for use with night vision goggles, the MP5SD submachine gun, the AK-47 and AK-74u variant, along with new anti-vehicle weapons, such as the FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank weapon and the FIM-92 Stinger hand-held surface-to-air missile launcher.
Players can pick up the weapons and ammunition of dead enemies. Other features include a grenade launcher attachment, tripwire-detonated Claymores, C-4 explosives, air strike capabilities, an attack helicopter and more.
